Spent a few days travelling through; explored Schwaz and Salzburg, but due to the weather (snow on the way) we had to get through quite quickly. Drove through loads and loads of tunnels (some of which are toll) and saw some spectacular snow up on the top of the mountains in the centre of the country. Struggled to find any free places to stop, although we didn't try proper wild camping...

Some motorway tunnels are also toll roads
Speed limit is 130kph on motorways, 100 kph on main roads and 50 kph in built up areas.
Warning triangle, first-aid kit and reflective jacket compulsory
Winter tyres are mandatory between 1 November and 15 April
You're not allowed to use a horn in Vienna or near a hospital
You mustn't overtake a school bus that's letting children on or off
You must form an emergency corridor when in traffic
Do not use "erdgas" at petrol stations - this is not LPG
Permitted anywhere apart from protected rural areas or Vienna, as long as no camping equipment is set up outside the vehicle
