Speed limits are based on the quality and safety of each road, not the type of road, so pay attention to the signs. If in doubt, go at 70 kph until you see a sign

Dipped headlights during the day are compulsory

Carrying of a shovel for snow is compulsory, and windscreen fluid must contain antifreeze

Watch out for big game (moose etc) - you must contact the police should you hit something - if it runs back into the woods, mark the spot with a plastic bag

‘Datumparkering’ applies in some towns and suburbs - on odd days of the month parking is not permitted on the side of the road with odd numbered houses and vice versa for even days and even numbering

It may be necessary to have a "Camping Card Scandinavia" - the CCI isn't always accepted. It is possible to buy one from a campsite though

Overnight parking is not encouraged in ‘Rastplats’ (lay-bys) on major roads, but is permissable...don't stay longer than 18 hours though.

Water tanks should be refilled at fuel stations
